We wanted the music to reflect the strain, the unease, the restlessness, the constant tension and the noise inside Jude’s head, being constantly on his guard and everything. We decided that a droney, buzzy and repetitive movement would sustain that part of the story best. For the emotive bits we also used a cello in the score.
